North Dakota State Regulations
In North Dakota, all employers with one or more employees must obtain workers’ compensation insurance exclusively through the state’s monopolistic fund, Workforce Safety & Insurance (WSI). Private insurers are not allowed to provide this coverage. Sole proprietors, partners, corporate officers, and LLC members are generally excluded from mandatory coverage but can opt-in if they choose. North Dakota’s system provides comprehensive benefits, including medical care, wage replacement, and vocational rehabilitation services for injured workers. The WSI oversees compliance, ensuring that employers adhere to state regulations and imposing penalties for non-compliance to protect workers’ rights and benefits.
