Colorado State Regulations
In Colorado, all employers with one or more employees are required to carry workers’ compensation insurance, which can be obtained through a private insurer or by becoming self-insured if they meet specific state requirements. Sole proprietors and partners are automatically excluded from coverage but can choose to opt-in. Corporate officers and LLC members who own at least 10% of the business are also excluded unless they elect to be covered. Colorado’s system provides injured workers with medical care, wage replacement, and rehabilitation services. The Colorado Division of Workers’ Compensation ensures compliance and enforces regulations, imposing penalties on employers who fail to meet their obligations to protect workers’ rights and benefits.
